Introduces ZinKlad Brake
ZinKlad welcomes   ZinKlad Brake
In the last year MacDermid have added 7 new applicators to the ZinKlad program. Additionally we have added extra ZinKlad capacity to 9 existing applicators. 

3 applicators have been removed from the ZinKlad program with a further one on probation. This demonstrates MacDermid's commitment to maintaining the rigorous standards of the ZinKlad program.

  ZinKlad Brake are a new range of high performance finishes for protecting cast iron brake calipers.These brake fluid compatible coatings are free of hexavalent chromium and cobalt.

2 levels of performance are offered, ZinKlad Brake 250 and ZinKlad Brake 1000. Both coatings are fully compliant with both ELV and REACH regulations.

ZinKlad Brake coatings are designed as a ‘drop in’ process suitable for most zinc or zinc-nickel electroplating lines.

The special inorganic topcoat, HydroKlad SI is unlubricated, making it compatible with brake fluid. HydroKlad SI also has the advantage of drying without drip marks or staining and providing protection even after post-plate deformation.

ZinKlad North America

With the growing importance of Japanese Tier 1 supply chain in North America, MacDermid opened the Japan Desk in Metro Detroit. This exciting addition to our OEM program will act as a liaison between Japan-based automotive customers in North America and MacDermid personnel to ensure that the customers’ ongoing requirements are established, understood and satisfied.

Our bilingual Account Manager, Yusuke Nakajima,  will cater for the sophisticated needs of Japanese automotive OEMs and their expanding supply chain in North America who require ZinKlad plating chemistry or help locating approved applicators.

Tawas plating (Michigan) are now approved to  ZinKlad 240. This rack zinc finish is applied to meet GMW 3044 X. Torcad (96 and 250) are our first approved applicator in Canada.

ASEAN Brake MacDermidMacDermid chose the 1st ASEAN BRAKE Conference and Exhibition to launch our new range of ZinKlad Brake finishes. This exhibition featured over 270 participants from throughout the ASEAN countries and overseas. With Faratech (Thailand), Nantong Chayo (China) and Z&D (Taiwan) being recently approved, this brings the total number of ZinKlad applicators to 22 in Asia / Pacific region. All 3 are approved to ZinKlad 250 with the latter 2 also being 1000 and 1000 B applicators. Nantong Chayo (China) approved to ZinKlad 96.  This number includes 18 processing lines for ZinKlad 250 and 10 for ZinKlad 1000 / 1000 B.

ZinKlad MGLAs well as adding Metacromo (Italy) as a new applicator, additional capacity has been added for the ZinKlad MG / MGL finishes. Holder (Germany), Norm (Turkey) and Galol (Spain) join Galfa and Leist in Germany in offering this finish. ZinKlad MG/MGL is specified by both VW-Audi and Chrysler.

Held every 2 years in Stuttgart, the German O&S (surface finishing exhibition) is an important exhibition to showcase new finishing technology. In 2014 the show was held alongside the Automotive Interior Design which helped attract OEM design engineers. Particular interest being shown in our Enviralloy zinc-nickel, cobalt-free passivation and dryfilm lubricants.

Enviralloy NiEnviralloy Ni 12-15 G2 - is the ideal process for the application of zinc-nickel on to fasteners to achieve bright deposits with a consistent alloy composition.

Designed for barrel plating operations it produces an attractive finish with a nickel content between 12-15% and operates across a wide range of current densities and operating parameters.

ZinKlad Coefficient of Friction Data
ZinKlad commercialThe use of torque (turning or twisting force) has long been associated with methods of tightening and inspecting bolts. 
The object of tightening bolts is to achieve a minimum tension (straight pull), not torque, in the bolts.

As a nut and bolt are tightened the components to be fastened are clamped together.  The thread angle in the bolt converts the force applied into tension (or stretch) in the bolt shank. 

The amount of the tension created in the bolt is critical, because when a bolt is tensioned correctly it is working at its optimum efficiency and will resist coming undone. If the tension is too low the nut could vibrate or work loose. If the tension is too high (over-stretched), the bolt could break. Torque'N'Tension Control Fluids are designed to overcome these issues. 

They apply a dry lubricating film which both lowers the friction and makes the torque-tension relationship more predictable. MacDermid Torque 'N' Tension products are available to give average coefficient of friction in the 0.08, 0.11, 0.12, 0.15 and 0.22 ranges.

These technical data sheets outline (for each performance level):
  • Typical corrosion resistance
  • Recommended processes
  • Coefficient of friction (where applicable)
  • Recommended applications

These data sheets can be downloaded direct from our ZinKlad performance level webpage, or from each relevant ZinKlad performance level page (e.g. ZinKlad 250)
